PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a registration place folder to be changed flexibly according to a document, while automatically determining the registration place folder of a document management system for a document image acquired from an external device. SOLUTION: This document management system acquires a facsimile document image from an external device providing facsimile-receiving function, acquires the transmitting origin telephone number of the facsimile document image, automatically determines a registration place folder of the document management system, based on a correspondence table which indicates the correspondence between the transmitting origin telephone number and the registration place folder and the acquired transmitting origin telephone number, and registers the facsimile document image to the registration place folder of the document management system adding an index to the facsimile document image.
