The invention concerns an electric toaster, comprising a cooking chamber provided with an inserting slot, a bread-holder carriage mobile inside the cooking chamber, locking means for maintaining the carriage in a low position corresponding to a cooking position, return means for moving the carriage to a high position for removing the toast, when the locking means are inactive, a mechanism regulating the rising speed of the carriage when the latter moves under the effect of the return means, said mechanism including a rotary decelerating component (25) designed to be driven in rotation by the displacement of the carriage relative to the cooking chamber. The invention is characterized in that the rotary component (25) comprises at least a projecting and/or indented peripheral portion forming an air brake, about the rotation shaft (36) of said rotary component (25), so that when it rotates, the frictions in the air of said peripheral portion(s) (39) dissipate part of the kinetic energy of the carriage. |
