The lifting apparatus has a lower lifting mast (2) to which a mast extension or upper mast can be added. A cable diverting head (12) can be mounted at the top of the two masts. The whole lifting fork (6) and the two traveling forks (4) are positioned so that the forks run parallel to the lower mast. The upper mast can be stowed away in a casing.
