A filter element (20) comprises a loose powdered or granular absorbent (4) for the impurities of a gas stream; a first flat molded body permeable for the gas stream but not for the adsorbent; a second flat molded body permeable for the gas stream but not for the adsorbent arranged parallel to the first molded body at a short distance from each other; and chambers (14) distributed in the intermediate chamber between the molded bodies over the whole surface of the element. The chambers are divided by stays (6) which are adhered on at least flat side of the element using a hot melt adhesive. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) the production of a filter element; and (ii) a device for carrying out the production of the filter element. Preferred Features: The stays are formed by a grid (5) coated on both sides by the hot melt adhesive. The grid is made from plastic or cardboard. The adsorbent has an average grain size of 0.1-1.0 mm and is made from activated charcoal. The molded bodies are made from a fleece or a sieving material.
