METHOD FOR EVALUATING INSTANTANEOUS FREQUENCY OF A MECHANICAL EXCITATION EXERTED ON A MOTOR VEHICLE WHEEL, AND APPLICATIONS

The invention concerns a method for evaluating instantaneous frequency (f) of a mechanical excitation exerted on a motor vehicle wheel by the uneven surface of a road, based on measurements of observable parameters such as those (Zrel) related to the instantaneous height of the chassis and/or the wheel of said vehicle. Said method further comprises a filtering procedure (FILT) producing successive estimates (Zc; Zr) of the instantaneous height of the chassis and of the wheel, a lag extracting procedure (DECAL), producing an estimated value (D; De.te) of the time lag between the height estimations (Zc; Zr), and a frequency estimating procedure (ESTIM), producing the desired evaluation of the frequency (f) based on the estimated time lag value (D; De.te).
