TILE

A tile for positioning on a substrate surface (14) such as a paved surface. The tile comprises a body portion (21) and a flange portion (22) formed integrally with the body portion (21) and depending therefrom at one peripheral edge to define a lip (26). The lip (26) is adapted to be received in a channel (28) cut into the substrate surface (14). With this arrangement, the bottom of the tile along the peripheral edge incorporating the lip (26) is concealed. The body portion (21) can be fixed to the substrate surface (14) in any suitable way such as adhesive bonding or mechanical fixing. The tile is particularly suitable for use as a tactile tile for providing tactile information to persons who are visually impaired. In such an application, tactile information would be provided on the outer face of the tile. The tile can be incorporated in a tile assembly applied to the substrate surface (14).
