The invention relates to a floating caliper disk brake for motor vehicles, comprised of a brake holder that is fixed to the vehicle, of a floating caliper (1), which is displaceably mounted on the brake holder and which reaches around a brake disk (2) as well as around brake pads (3) located on both sides of the brake disk (2), of an actuating device, which is placed on one side of the brake disk and provided for directly subjecting at least one brake pad (3) to braking force, and of a device (4) for adjusting the clearance between at least one brake pad (3) and the brake disk (2) outside of the brake actuation phases. According to the invention, the device (4) for adjusting clearance, which is axially supported on the floating caliper (1, 10) and on the brake pad (3), effects, when activated, a defined axial relative displacement between the floating caliper (1) and the brake disk (2), whereby at least one brake pad (3) is coupled to the displacement of the floating caliper (3). The desired clearance (L) between the brake pad (3) and the brake disk (2) is easily obtained once the clearance has been adjusted.
