A folding leg for a bench or table is attached to a tubular pivot which rotates in two coaxial support brackets. A locking mechanism is mounted on a support plate fastened to the underside of the table/bench, and which grips the tubular pivot via two additional brackets. The tubular pivot has two radial stops straddling a locking mechanism. In the locked position the structure is braced between the two stops, and cannot rotate in either direction. A spring loaded release lever releases the locking action to fold the leg. The system can support two legs, one each end of the pivot tube.
