Parallel gripping device comprises carriages (80) supporting gripping elements moving in pairs. The carriages are displaced by at least one piston/cylinder unit arranged in a housing parallel to the gripping direction. The carriages are hinged to cam drives arranged one after the other via one piston (43) in each movement direction. The two pistons are positioned in a bore. A first cam drive in each movement direction consists of a spline element (45, 55) moved by the piston and a pressure part (60, 70) lying with a bezel or chamfer on the piston. A second cam drive in each movement direction consists of the same pressure part having a bezel or chamfer facing away from the piston and a spline element (82, 83) arranged on the carriage. The pressure parts are guided perpendicular to the gripping direction in the housing. Each of the two carriages has two active spline elements. One carriage has two facing active wedge flanks, and the active wedge flanks (86, 87) of the other carriage face away from each other. The pressure parts lying on the spline elements of the piston are supported on the facing wedge flanks of one carriage and on the non-facing wedge flanks of the other carriage.
