The invention relates to a throttle valve body for an internal combustion engine, comprising a housing (1) and a cross-flow hole (2) in the housing (1 ), which can be blocked by a throttle valve (3). The throttle valve (3) is arranged on a shaft (6) that can be pivotally driven about its longitudinal axis (26) which extends crosswise to the longitudinal axis of the cross-flow hole (2). The free ends of said shaft are pivotally mounted in bearings arranged in recesses (14) in the housing (1). Said shaft (6) valve is secure d against axial displacement by an axial safety device. The throttle valve (3) has bearing surfaces (27) in support areas (24) that are fixed to the housin g in the areas in which the shaft (6) projects axially.
