Colorant for keratin fibers, especially human hair, contains coupler/developer hybrid dye (precursor) compound(s) (I), or physiologically compatible salt, with a 3-aminophenylamino coupler group and a developer group of the oxidation dye precursor type linked by (substituted) 1-10C alkylene, optionally with O and/or S and/or imino in chain. Colorant for keratin fibers, especially human hair, according to DE 10100928, contains coupler/developer hybrid dye and/or hybrid dye precursor compound(s) of formula (I) or a physiologically compatible salt of X-S-Y (I). X = a 3-aminophenylamino group of formula (II); R<1>, R<2>, R<3> = R; R = H, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6 C polyhydroxyalkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy-(1-4 C)-alkyl, (substituted) aryl, aryl-(1-4 C)-alkyl, RIRII-N-(CH2)n-; RI, RII = H, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C monohydroxyalkyl or aryl-(1-4 C)-alkyl; n = 1-6; R<3>-N-S-Y, NR<1>R<2> may = a 5-, 6- or 7-membered heterocycle; R<4> = R'; R' = H, halogen, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6 C polyhydroxyalkyl, hydroxy-(1-4 C)-alkoxy, acetylamino-(1-4 C)-alkoxy, mesylamino-(1-4 C)-alkoxy, aryl-(1-4 C)-alkyl or carbamoylamino-(1-4 C)-alkoxy; S = 1-10 C alkylene, optionally with Z group(s) in the chain and/or 1-4 C alkyl, OH or 1-8 C alkoxy substituent(s); Z = O, S or NRIII; RIII = H, 1-4 C alkyl or 1-4 C monohydroxyalkyl; Y = a group derived from an oxidation dye precursor of the developer type.
