A liquid−crystal polyester resin characterized by containing monomer units derived from 2−hydroxy−3−naphthoic acid and/or 2−hydroxynaphthalene−3,6−dicarboxylic acid in an amount of 1 to 5,000 mmol% based on all structural monomer units in the liquid−crystal polyester resin and by containing an alkali metal compound in an amount of 10 to 3,000 ppm, in terms of alkali metal amount, of all monomer units in the liquid−crystal polyester resin. The liquid−crystal polyester resin has satisfactory colorability, improved heat resistance, and satisfactory mechanical properties.
