An automatic molding unit for producing moldings from foam particles by welding or sintering the particles in the mold chamber, especially high melting point plastics and strongly expanding foam particles, comprises walls which encase the mold chamber. The foam particles are welded or sintered using steam, which passes through the walls and between the particles. The walls consist of a material which has at most half, preferably only a quarter of the thermal conductivity of aluminum. The walls consist partially or totally of wood and/or heat resistant plastic, and have holes every 5-20mm for the steam to pass through. The holes have a diameter of 0.5-2mm. The walls are supported by slats and/or sheet metal.
