Method and arrangement for transferring electric power to a power consumer

An arrangement (1) for transferring electric power from a power source to an electric power consumer (5) comprises a direct current intermediate circuit (9) having a first and a second direct current connection line. Electric power can be delivered via an input device (7) on an input side. A current converter (11) for inverting the direct current is connected to the direct current connection lines at an output side. At least one capacitor is provided in the intermediate circuit (9) between the direct current connection lines. A measurement device (40) is connected to the intermediate circuit (9) wherein the measurement device is adapted to measure a time interval of charging and/or discharging the at least one capacitor and an evaluation device (40) which is connected to the measurement device and which is adapted to evaluate the time interval in order to decide whether the at least one capacitor has been charged and/or discharged. The arrangement is particularly suitable for use on a railway locomotive, or train.
