The system for re-positioning and locking a smooth rod (2) inside a sleeve consists of a sprung locking plate (4) with an aperture (5) for the rod to pass through. The plate is actuated by a cam (14) and follower (16) which turn the plate so the axis of its aperture (Z') lies parallel to that of the rod and the rod can move freely through it, when the cam is released the plate is once against tilted at an oblique angle to the rod, locking it in position.
