Member individuals submit contact (or other) information over a network to a server, which stores the information as data records. The members each choose a password and are assigned an identification code ("IDC"), both of which correspond to the members' respective data records. The passwords allow the members to access and modify the information contained in their respective data records, while the IDCs allow recipients, who are given the IDCs, to access (but not to modify) the data records over the network. To do so, the recipient accesses an interface program. The IDCs received by the recipient are entered into the interface program, which downloads from the server copies of the data records corresponding to the IDCs on the list. The interface program can access the server to view and update the local copies of the data records subsequent the members modifying the information stored in their respective data records.
|
