Treating molten metal, especially pig iron, comprises feeding a first reactant containing liquid pig (7) and a second reactant containing a dephosphorizing agent and/or a desulfurizing agent, especially synthetic slag (8), to a reaction vessel (1) and thoroughly mixing. An Independent claim is also included for a device for treating molten metal, especially pig iron comprising a casting chute (5) for dispersing a liquid treatment agent, and a device for introducing the treatment agent/pig iron mixture into the reaction vessel. Preferred Features: The reactants are mixed together to from an emulsion. The first reactant is fed to the dispersing device followed by the second reactant so that the second reactant is finely distributed in the first reactant. The treatment agent is heated to 1400 degrees C.
