A mechanical sealing device (1), comprises a two-part type stationary seal ring (2) having a first sealing face (3) at one end and retained fluid-tightly by a housing (60) so as to be movable axially and a first two-part type fastening ring (7) fitting to an outer face of the stationary seal ring (2) and closely contacting splitting faces of the stationary seal ring. Axial splitting faces of the first fastening ring are coupled and a gap through which the sealed fluid passes is defined between the inner face of the stationary seal ring (2) and a rotatable shaft (50), and the stationary seal ring (2) is biased against the rotatable seal ring by a biasing means. The structure of the mechanical seal device can be simplified as an outside/external seal. The sealing ability is achieved even if high pressure sealed fluid is used. Further, the sealing ability is also achieved if high viscosity fluid or high slurry contained fluid is used as the sealed fluid. <IMAGE>
