PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for producing a N-substituted-5-chloro anthranilic acid ester derivative usable as a pharmacetical intermediate. SOLUTION: The amino group of anthranilic acid ester is substituted by a substituent containing a benzene ring, and thereafter the 5-position of the anthranilic acid is chlorinated by chlorine or sulfuryl chloride, thus the N- substituted-5-chloro anthranilic acid ester is selectively produced.
