PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color thermal transfer imaging apparatus employing a multi-time ink ribbon in which recording speed is increased by shortening the time elapsing before starting recording onto a next recording medium after ending recording onto a previous recording medium when recording is performed continuously onto a plurality of sheets of recording medium. SOLUTION: A heater section 8 for preheating an ink ribbon R prior to recording is arranged to be shifted to a position where preheating for the ink face of the ink ribbon R being used for a next card K is ended simultaneously with ending recording onto a previous card K when recording is performed continuously onto a plurality of cards K.
