PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture absorbing and retaining pigment having an excellent feeling when used, and excellent in moisture absorption and retention, without using collagen, and to provide a cosmetic compounded with the pigment, having an excellent moisture feeling in an area to which the cosmetic is applied, and capable of keeping the moisture feeling. SOLUTION: This moisture absorbing and retaining pigment is obtained by subjecting surfaces of the pigment to surface coating treatment with a synthetic or semisynthetic water-soluble polymer. The pigment has the excellent feeling when used, and is excellent in the moisture absorption and retention. Further, the cosmetic is compounded with the moisture absorbing and retaining pigment. The cosmetic has the excellent moisture feeling in the area to which the cosmetic is applied, and further keeps the moisture feeling. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
