PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head gap adjusting device for a printer constituted so as to bring an interval setting roller 9 into contact with a printing medium 5 to set the gap between a printing head 3 and the printing medium 5 to a proper interval fitted to printing, and to solve the problem that the interval setting roller 9 having a large diameter is required in order to pass the end part 5a of the printing medium 5 or the adjusting device is made large-sized by using a large-sized motor and the printing medium 5 is damaged by the hooking with the interval setting roller 9. SOLUTION: A thrust angleθinto the end part 5a of the printing medium 5 is made small by providing an auxiliary roller 14 in the carriage main scanning direction of the interval setting roller 9 to enable smooth stranding.
