PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate setting of timing from hitting of an ink to a recording medium to irradiation of ultraviolet ray to harden and fix the ink in forming an image on the recording medium using an electromagnetic radiant ray hardening ink, for example UV-ink, and to acquire superior image density and fixability, and to suppress the occurrence of odor from the recording medium after the formation of images. SOLUTION: An ink jet recording apparatus variably controls a time from the hitting of a UV-ray curable ink after being discharged from an ink jet recording head on a recording medium to the irradiation of UV-ray to the ink. UV-rays are irradiated to the ink so as to be the permeability amount of the ink obtained by the Bistow method equal to or less than 70% (0.7 Vmax), preferably, equal to or less than 30% (0.3 Vmax), after the transfer of the ink to the recording medium (Tw), whereby lowering of the image density, fixing defectively and occurrence of odor caused in a case of excess permeability can be prevented.
