PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce desensitization in reception of a quadrature (QD) coil. SOLUTION: A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus applies a high-frequency pulse to a subject 1 placed in a magnetostatic space, so as to excite the subject 1, detects a magnetic resonance signal generated by this excitation by using a receiving coil 14b, and reconstitutes an image in accordance with a detection signal which is detected by the receiving coil 14b. The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is characterized as follows: the receiving coil 14b is equipped with a solenoid coil 32 with a plurality of turns and a saddle coil 31 with a plurality of turns, which has a coil axis orthogonal to a coil axis of the solenoid coil 32; and each turn of at least either of the solenoid coil 32 and the saddle coil 31 is provided with a variable capacitor 23 for adjusting a series capacitance of each turn thereof.
