<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain alignment of paper sheets in storing the paper sheets in a storing/discharging storage mounted to a device for handling paper sheets of different sizes by the same machine and transporting the storing/discharging storage in the set state of the paper sheets regarding the storing/discharging storage used for a copying machine, a printer and a bill receiving/paying machine conveying the paper sheets, particularly a return type bill receiving/ paying machine using received bills as paid bills. <P>SOLUTION: This bill receiving/paying device has the storing/discharging storage wherein the width of a bill storing space is formed in stepped shape when not mounted to the bill receiving/paying device, while the width of the storing space is uniform when mounted to the bill receiving/paying device.
