PURPOSE: Provided are an electrolyte composition for lead storage battery which reduces the content of essential silica and costs of battery, and can increase the flexibility of electrolyte injection and the convenience of process control, and a lead storage battery comprising the composition. CONSTITUTION: The composition comprising an aqueous sulfuric acid, a silica and a binder polymer, is characterized by 5-15 wt% of silica, 0.05-3 wt%(based on the silica) of polyvinylpyrrolidone-based polymer having molecular weight of 1,000 or more, as well as aqueous sulfuric acid. The lead storage battery consisting of cathode plate, electrolyte, and anode plate, is characterized in that the electrolyte is formed by adding 5-15 wt% of silica and 0.05-3 wt%(based on the silica) of polyvinylpyrrolidone-based polymer having molecular weight of 1,000 or more.
