HIGH-PRESSURE GAS DISCHARGE LAMP AND LIGHTING UNIT

PURPOSE: A high-pressure gas discharge lamp is provided to achieve a luminous efficacy corresponding substantially to that of lamps containing mercury by obtaining a mercury-free gas filling. CONSTITUTION: A high-pressure gas discharge lamp comprises a discharge vessel(1) which encloses a discharge space(2) with a light-generating substance, a bottom surface(10) which is in lowermost position in the operational position of the lamp. The bottom surface(10) has a first, raised region(11) and at least one second region(12). A distance of the first region(11) to an arc discharge(6) formed during operation of the lamp is dimensioned such that the light-generating substance collected on the first region(11) enters the gaseous state in a sufficient quantity owing to heating after switching on of the lamp. The second region(12) is arranged such that it acts as a collector reservoir for the light-generating substance moving because of the heating caused by switching on of the lamp.
