SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING VIDEO ON DEMAND SERVICE USING SATELLITE COMMUNICATION AND LOCAL SERVER

PURPOSE: A system and method for providing video on demand service using satellite communication and a local server are provided to improve bottle neck phenomenon of a video on demand system and increase quality of the VOD service. CONSTITUTION: A video on demand service providing system includes a video on demand server(120) and a local server(110). The video on demand server transmits video information a subscriber desires through a communication network. The local server stores the video information and, when a video information request message is received from the subscriber, judges whether or not corresponding video information is stored. The local server immediately transmits the video information to the subscriber when there is the corresponding video information and sends the video information request message to the video on demand server when there is no corresponding video information. The video on demand server transmits the video information to the local server through a satellite communication network(140) using satellite communication.
