PURPOSE: A method for managing traffic channels of a mobile communication system supporting an LBS(Location Based Service) is provided to assign traffic channels when performing an initial LBS, and to carry out a consecutive operation of data to give the LBS through the assigned traffic channels, thereby efficiently using channel resources. CONSTITUTION: When a PDE(Position Determining Entity) wants to transmit an SMDPP(Short Message Delivery Point To Point), the PDE uses an action code number '18'. Traffic channels are assigned to transmit data for an LBS between an exchange and a terminal. The data is transmitted through the assigned channels(212-222). If further data transmission is necessary for the LBS, the PDE uses an action code number '1', and the data is transmitted between the PDE and the terminal(224-232,234,240). If the PDE transmits the data to the terminal and does not require a response from the terminal, the PDE uses an action code number '21'(242-248). If the PDE completes an LBS procedure and recovers the assigned traffic channels, the PDE uses an action code number '16'. The traffic channels are recovered(250-260).
