PURPOSE: A method for designating a hot key of a mobile terminal is provided to designate frequently-used words or sentences or bookmarks of a short message by a hot key, thereby quickly writing the short message or selecting a menu. CONSTITUTION: A user requests a short message to be designated by inputting a key signal for selecting a hot key designating character item(S10). A mobile terminal outputs hot key lists(S11). The user selects one of the hot key lists by a direction key, and inputs an OK key(S13). The mobile terminal decides whether the hot key selected by the user is preset. If not, the mobile terminal outputs an input screen. If the hot key is preset, the mobile terminal requests other hot key to be designated.
