PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling data are provided to reduce a heating value of a drive IC and the power consumption by lowering the resolution of data patterns. CONSTITUTION: A data input process is performed to receive data(63). The same data are copied to a data region having a predetermined volume in order to lower the resolution of the data. The temperature of a driving circuit is sensed to provide the data to a data line of a display panel. The resolution of the data is lowered if the sensed temperature is higher than the predetermined temperature. The lowering process of the resolution is performed in one or more subfields having a low weight value of luminance. The lowering process of the resolution is performed in the subfields, alternately.
