The invention relates to a method for the production of dyestuff pastes, whereby a component containing dyestuff particles is dispersed in a binder. According to the invention, the dispersion process is controlled by irradiation of exciting light of a particular wavelength range into a mixtur e of the components containing the dyestuff particles and the binder, the ligh t which is transmitted, reflected and/or scattered by the mixture is detected and a sample spectrum determined. The sample spectrum is analyzed and characteristic values for the dyestuff paste determined. Changes in the samp le spectrum are monitored with time and the dispersion process interrupted on reaching given set values.
