In a communication system having an improved transmission error resistance by adaptively switching the modulation method and the error correction method according to the propagation path state, signals MX, MY, CX, CY of the modulation method and the error correction method used at the transmission side are arranged at discrete positions within the same frame for transmission. Thus, even when the transmission signal is subjected to fading and transmission path fluctuation, the possibility of deterioration of both of the signals MX and MY and both of the signals CX and CY arranged at discrete positions is very low. As a result, the reception side can accurately restore the modulation type information signal and/or the error correction type information signal.
