SOLUTION: In the case of setting focusing evaluation areas R1 to R3 being an object whose evaluated value concerning the focusing state of a photographic lens is calculated at a position where contrast is hardly found on an image G10 stored in an image memory, the change of the evaluated value equal to or above a fixed value can not be detected in spite of performing general autofocusing operation and 1st low contrast scanning operation to detect the change of the evaluated value equal to or above the fixed value while driving the photographic lens by aiming all the focusing driving range, so that 2nd low contrast scanning operation to detect the change of the evaluated value equal to or above the fixed value while driving the photographic lens by aiming all the focusing driving range is performed concerning the image of the changed focusing evaluation areas R2, R4 and R5.
