FRONT FILTER FOR PLASMA DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast at a bright place under a fluorescent lamp without injuring light emission from a plasma display. SOLUTION: By providing an absorbing band near 490 nm, only light from the fluorescent lamp is selectively reduced and the light emitted from the plasma display is effectively transmitted. Further a spectral characteristic of light transmitivity of a wavelength selective filter in a wavelength region between 380 and 780 nm is constituted so that the light transmitivity of the filter is above a straight line linking the light transmitivity at 380 nm and the light transmitivity at 436 nm and the light transmitivity at 490 nm is below a straight line linking the light transmitivity at 436 nm and the light transmitivity at 547 nm and is above a straight line linking light transmitivity at 612 nm and the light transmitivity at 780 nm.
