PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fire-resistant coating agent that can impart extremely excellent fire-resistant performance as a fire-resistant coating agent, especially to a steel frame, or the like, used in a large-sized building structure such as a multi-storied steel frame building, or the like. SOLUTION: The fire-resistant coating agent comprises an aqueous paste containing a water-soluble alkali silicate which constitutes not less than 30 wt.% of its components exclusive of water, a powder of a hormite group mineral and an SiO2 -imparting component other than the two components as mentioned above.
