Single action method and system for placing a purchase order via a communications network

A method is disclosed for ordering an item via the Internet. Firstly, the client system will receive and persistently store a client identifier from the server system. When an item is to be ordered, information regarding the item is displayed (102,104). Additionally, an indication of a single action (such as a single mouse click) that is to be performed to order the item is displayed (103). When the user does perform the single action, a request to order the identified item along with the client identifier is sent to the server system.
