PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a slice level of a synchronous slice circuit for separating a synchronizing signal from a video signal independently of the kind of the video signal. SOLUTION: A horizontal period detection section 1 detects a horizontal period from a horizontal synchronizing signal of a received composite video signal S1. A horizontal synchronizing width determining section 2 determined a synchronous width providing a proper slice level in the detected horizontal period. A horizontal synchronizing signal production section 3 produces the horizontal synchronizing signal with a detected horizontal period and the determined synchronous width. A changeover section 4 switches the synchronizing signal of the received composite video signal S1 so as to be replaced with the produced horizontal synchronizing signal. A switching control section 5 switches the changeover section 4 on the basis of the produced horizontal synchronizing signal.
