The invention relates to a salad shaker comprising a lower part of a contain er (2) and a cover (1) which is placed on the same and comprises a cable pull drive (10) by which means the salad sieve (3) can be rotated. Said drive (10 ) is connected to a rotating plate (14) by means of a free-running device (15, 16) which acts on both sides, and enables the rotational direction of the salad sieve to be changed in a spring-biased manner. The repeated change in rotational direction causes the shaking efficiency to be significantly improved. A further advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the restoring force of the inventive spring automatically reels in the cable and holds the handle in a desired position on the cover in a spring-biased manne r. The inventive drive can also be used in handle-operated salad shakers.</SDOA B>
