PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a flat cable that is made easy to be branched. SOLUTION: After the top and bottom insulating films 2, 3 of a flat cable 1 are temporarily adhered by a heating roller, they are fused by an ultrasonic horn 13 and a melting anvil 11 and, immediately after that, a tear groove 30 is formed on one face of the flat cable 1 by a tear groove forming anvil 12 provided adjacent to the melting anvil 11. By making the tear groove forming anvil 12 capable of being lifted and lowered, it is made to retreat from the traveling passage of the flat cable 1 when the tear groove 30 is not formed. The flat cable 1 that passes over the tear groove forming anvil 12 is carried out ultrasonic heating by the same ultrasonic horn 13 as the ultrasonic horn 13 to the melting anvil 11, thereby preventing increase of the number of component.
