PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet communication apparatus that can prevent overflow of a transfer purpose buffer means. SOLUTION: Buffers 100a, b store transmission packets generated by a CPU 1 and packets addressed to a communication apparatus 800 among the packets from the Ethernets (R) 820a, b. A transfer judgment circuit 200 transmits the packets to be sent to the Ethernet 820a or 820b via a MAC 300a or 300b. When the transfer circuit 200 discriminates that the packet from the Ethernet 820a is a packet addressed to another communication apparatus on the basis of a destination MAC address, the transfer circuit 200 transfers the packet to the Ethernet 820b via the MAC 300b. When the usage rate of transfer FIFO 130a, b exceeds a threshold value in a process of transmitting packets stored in the transmission FIFO 120a, b with priority, the priority of the transfer packet is set higher than that of the transmission packet and the transfer packet is transferred to the Ethernet 820a or 820b by taking precedence of the transfer packet over the transmission packet.
