PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently record, reproduce and display character information which indicates the contents of audio data such as a music source or the like while mainly recording the data. SOLUTION: Audio data are arranged in a pack A and character information relative to the audio data and display time data of the character information are arranged in a pack D. The display time data in the pack D are separated into display start time data and display end time data by a display time decoder 51 and applied to a start comparator 52 and an end comparator 53. The character data are converted into dot matrix character data for displaying by a character data decoder 54 and stored in a buffer 55. The comparators 52 and 53 compare the data for display start and end time with pack A addresses in order to control the display time of the characters.
