PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein emission wavelength is changed by environmen tal temperature when various kinds of light emitting elements which have been devel oped for optical communication are used in wavelength multiplex communication, and the problem that temperature control of a light emitting element is inevitable in wavelength multiplex communication since interference between optical waves is generated by temperature change of wavelength when optical waves having a plural ity of wavelength are transmitted simultaneously, as a powerful method for solving the problem, a semiconductor light emitting element is operated in a wide wavelength bandwidth, an optical filter which is stable for temperature change is added outside and a specified wavelength for wavelength multiplex communication is selected, how ever, restriction exists that a light emitting element does not exist which generates a light in a wide wavelength range in a long wavelength region used for optical commu nication. SOLUTION: In order to solve the problems, selenium and nitrogen are added simultaneously to compound semiconductor, and compound semiconductor layers are laminated from an upper and a lower parts of the compound semiconductor layer, so that a semiconductor light emitting element is provided. For one embodiment in this invention, a PN junction is formed by using the upper and the lower compound semiconductor layers by which the compound semiconductor layer to which selenium and nitrogen are added simultaneously is sandwiched. |
