PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer controller that separately lays characters and images by applying smoothing and dither processing to the respective images, superimposing the processed images with each other and outputs the resulting image to an engine so as to obtain an output result with high image quality without affecting each other when smoothing processing is desirably applied to the characters and the dither processing is desirably applied to the images in the image where the characters and the images are intermingled. SOLUTION: The printer controller is provided with a circuit for laying images and a circuit for characters, and a driver circuit for outputting an image where the images are superimposed on characters outputs the resulting image. Thus, the printer controller can separately process each image even when the part desirably smoothed and the part desirably subjected to dither processing are overlapped, the printer controller can separately process each image and output the resulting image.
