PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dryer for a paper machine designed to ensure dimensional stability in the direction at right angles from the forward direction of a wet web and uniformize the shrinkage percentage of the wet web in the dryer. SOLUTION: This dryer for the paper machine is obtained by installing a means for controlling the shrinkage of the running wet web in at least one site an selected from a position on a dryer roll suitable for applying an external input such as processing or control required for the wet web by contact with the wet web, in open draw parts with a large amount of evaporation and suitable for strongly influencing the moisture control of the wet web and on a circulating loop, etc., of a canvas having tolerance toward an access space and suitable for installing an external additional apparatus such as a controller where the shrinkage of the wet web is actualized and the moisture content of the wet web is <=40% to the range of a dry end in a process for drying the wet web in a dyer part. Thereby, the shrinkage of the wet web is regulated to carry out suitable drying.
