PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve strength against breakage of a lance. SOLUTION: At a lance hole 17 arranged at female side terminal fittings 10, a pair of receiving sections 40 are formed in a way their bilateral corner sections of the rear part of their mouth edges are tapered off. A cut-off section 44 is formed at a locking section 28 of a lance 26 in order to avoid interference with the receiving section 44. If the female side terminal fittings 10 stops at a half inserted position, the lance 26 stays in a bent and deformed status and if an inner housing 21 is fitted in an outer housing 30 at this status, a retainer section 34 hits the tip of the lance 26 and pushes it. However, as the status is that the edges of both sides in the vicinity of the fulcrum of bending 27, where bending stress tends to be concentrated, are received by the receiving section 40, flexural rigidity is practically enhanced. Therefore, normal fitting of the both housings 21, 30 are restricted without the lance 26 being broken, and the existence of a half inserted female side terminal fittings 10 can be detected.
