PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enclose only cesium in a tube and to prevent delay of discharge start in darkness without impairing an electric characteristic or polluting the inside of the tube even in the case of an electrodeless discharge lamp. SOLUTION: After a phosphor is applied to the inside wall of a glass tube (S1), and a metal plate with a cesium compound applied is sealed at one end in the glass tube. After carrying out evacuation (S3) and gas enclosure (S4), the lamp is formed by chipping it off (S5). Thereafter, metal cesium is enclosed in the glass tube by heating the metal plate (S6).
