PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centering device and a centering method for a disk which enable high-speed and highly accurate centering in simple and inexpensive constitution without rotating a turntable. SOLUTION: The device has a turntable 1 for placing a disk 3 and first and second arms 27 and 28 provided to freely turn with midpoints as supporting points 29 and 30 on one side and the other side of the turntable 1 and equipped with pads 27a and 27b and pads 28a and 28b on both ends and the supporting points of the first and second arms 27 and 28 are moved in the direction toward the center of the turntable 1, so that the pads 27a and 27b and the pads 28a and 28b provided on both ends of the first and second arms 27 and 28 can be moved along the outer periphery of the turntable 1.
