Translation of data streams between protocols for transmission through firewalls

To effect the ready transfer of multimedia protocol data from the multimedia computers 40 to target computers 20 via a network such as the Internet interspersed by multimedia protocol blocking firewalls 28, 32, the multimedia protocol data is transmitted to a server 50 where the data, in whatever protocol it is presented, is converted in a streaming converter to data in an Internet protocol selected from HTTP, FTP, SMTP and POP. This data is then transmitted via the respective protocol servers 54 and the Internet and any firewall applications to the target computers 20 which can transform the data in the Internet protocol back to the multimedia protocol.
