<p>An interface and related methods for dynamic channelization in an Ethernet architecture is described herein. A network interface and related methods to allow communication between a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (802.3ae) device and other remote devices compliant with former Ethernet standards such as 1Gb/s or 10Mb/s, wherein one 802.3ae MAC (106) and a plurality of 1Gb/s MAC (206) are provided. The communication capabilities of the remote device are identified, then, based on this identified capabilities two methods to adjust the output data rate are disclosed. First, emitting using the 802.3ae MAC (206) and dividing the bandwidth of the network in a predetermined number of time slots (700), only emitting during a number of them (702, 706), during the rest of the slots an idle signal is emitted (704A..704N) Said portion is determined based on the communication capability of the remote device. Second method is multiplexing one or more of the 1Gb/s MAC (106) to produce an output data rate based on the identified capability of the remote device.</p> |
